Presenter Shirley Hicks: A Somatic Psychotherapist & Yoga Teacher

Shirley Hicks is a somatic psychotherapist and yoga teacher who has been practising for over 20 years. She operates a private psychotherapy and yoga practice on the Gold Coast.

She has a specific interest in how traumatic events in life become part of the body’s story and the person’s experience.

Shirley is the co-founder of Trauma Sensitive Yoga Australia, in conjunction with Annabel McLisky – an organisation committed to promoting a discussion in both the yoga and wider mental health care community around trauma informed practices when working with clients recovering from trauma.

Shirley also works with the Mental Illness Fellowship of Qld , running yoga based programs for their clients who may be dealing with a wide range of mental health issues.

She also runs a program called Yoga for Emotional Resilience, which encourages participants to work with breath and movement as part of their own wellbeing.
