We know that this time of year can make it hard for people to stick to their health goals. With Christmas feasts, New Years drinks, end-of-year work parties and holiday travel on the cards, we know it can seem impossible! So we have complied a little list of yogic tips and tricks to help you stay on track!
- Stretch everyday
Have you noticed that the first thing a dog does when it gets up is stretch? Stretching is a natural urge that humans seem to have forgotten! Having a stretch (or even better, doing yoga!) helps the body to feel better, making exercise and everyday activities more endurable.
- Drink lots of water
Especially in the summer months (and if you are doing lots of hot yoga!), be sure to keep your hydration levels up! This can help with appetite suppression, complexion and just generally feeling good! Hydration is SO important! So drink up!
- Early Mornings
Especially at this time of year, it can be so hard to find the time to exercise- in fact, we really have to MAKE TIME. Getting up early can seem painful for some, but it allows you to squeeze in a workout when you would otherwise be sleeping. Plus, light exercise before breakfast can work wonders on the metabolism! Once the workout is done, you’re free for the rest of the day! See you at our 6am classes!? We promise the hardest part is getting up!
- Green tea
Green tea is full of antioxidants, helps with digestion and speeds the metabolism- it sells itself, really! So try to have a few cups a day. Even popping a couple of green tea bags into your water bottle can be a refreshing drink during the hotter months.
- Balanced food choices
Eating healthily does not mean restricting yourself completely! It is important to enjoy the festive season foods and to relax a little bit at this time of year, but it is easy to stay balanced as well! Add a salad to your meal or choose the leaner option – it may not always be TOTALLY healthy, but making cleaner choices will always leave you feeling better!
- Don’t miss out, just compensate!
We believe that completely depriving yourself of enjoying social outings, food and drinks is never the way to go. Especially at this time of year, it can be nearly impossible to stay entirely on track, but that’s ok! If you have lots of social commitments that involve eating and drinking over the Christmas period, try to enjoy them and just make the healthiest choices wherever you can! Plus, you can compensate by stepping up your workout routine! Increase your hot yoga practice, add in an extra run each week, squeeze in an early morning workout- whatever it is you usually do, just increase it! This will help you to maintain your health and fitness over the Christmas period, so that you are ready to start on those new years goals!
